Fall is one of the most coveted seasons to have your senior portraits done, and there's no question why...the outfits, the weather, and the beautiful changing leaves are all reasons why many people get inspired by the autumn season. While I have found positives about every change in the season, I do love shooting in the fall. It evokes feelings of warmth, of being cozy, of football games and bonfires, and of course, Pumpkin Spice lattes! Fun props can really make or break your session, and can add extra personality to your shoot. Although an autumnal session may look similar to your friends senior photos, the accessories and props you choose will make it truly yours. Here are some suggestions for things to include (which are applicable even if your senior shoot isn't in the fall):
-Hats and Headpieces: An outfit topper like a wide-brimmed hat will add a chic touch to your senior photos. You could also weave in some femininity with a delicate, thin headband that will be subtle and fashionable. There are many different types of headwear that you can also add, such as a slouchy beret, or a military themed one that fashion bloggers were all over last year (find it here).
-Scarves: The blanket scarf seems to be a quintessential fashion favorite, and it hasn't gone out of style yet. We love simple ones from Nordstrom and Forever 21, because of the affordable prices, and the way they add an unique touch to every single outfit. Look for one in neutral tones like brown, beige or black to make them versatile, or get something with a louder pattern in yellow or red for a statement piece. Remember that ultra thick wool will make your neck appear shorter, so steer clear of cowls and thick wool, which will be itchy and also not as flattering.
-Gloves and hoods: Gloves and fur hoods may seem less popular as accessories, but they have a vintage and stylish appeal. If you're doing more of a retro feel or fifties inspired fashion, gloves and hoods may be perfect for your session. A fur wrap or hood can be draped around your shoulders with a formal dress for a very 20's, Old Hollywood feel, which can be super fun and unique as well!
